Allen Wiegner has been a music lover for most of his life but just took up the bass in recent years. He keeps a rock steady rhythm for the Clippers and keeps us well-supplied with his humor whether we want to hear it or not. We recently discovered that he can also sing and we are already pressing him into service in that respect.
Gail Wiegner brings sweet vocals and a true love of bluegrass and acoustic folk music to the Clippers. Emmylou Harris is one of her strong influences and you can hear that in her song selection and delivery. Gail plays guitar and mandolin and is partially responsible for Allen having to lug that big heavy bass around.
Rae Ann McLanahan has Joni Mitchell and James Taylor in her musical roots and has grown to appreciate bluegrass and other styles of acoustic music. This corruption is partially due to Mac's influence as he encouraged her to get some twang as soon as they got married. She sings beautifully and adds guitar and concertina to the Clippers mix.
Mac McLanahan used to listen to early Flatt & Scruggs records and wondered what that whiny instrument with a hubcap on it was. After years of just playing guitar, Mac finally bought a Dobro and now whines along with the best of them. Since he plays guitar, Dobro, and mando, he is always imploring Rae Ann to carry his cases for him.
